Taos HS After-School Music Program a Success
Even as the first semester of the Taos HS After-School music program is still winding down, plans are being made for the fall semester. Judith Toth is planning fund raising programs over the summer to allow for the expansion of the program when school resumes next term. Judith hopes to purchase more instruments and have money to pay instructors who volunteered their time this first semester. The students are really responding to this opportunity and the program is expected to double to about 40 students next semester. More instructors will be needed to mentor these young musicians. Funds to pay instructors will help attract more local musicians to share their knowledge but the satisfaction of seeing kids getting hooked on music should also be a huge motivator. If you want to know what it is like working with these young people, ask Omar Rane or Aaron Lewis about their experiences.

Music Map Moves Forward
Information on all the local venues was recently compiled and sent to the Taos News to integrate into their map. The map will be printed early this fall with a special section that highlights all the live music venues in town. Over 140,000 of these are distributed annually and having a special music venues section will hopefully attract more visitors to them. The intent is to increase awareness of the music venues and ensure their success. This will in turn provide continued booking of local musicians to perform at them. Taos AMP wants visitors to learn about the vast musical talent in Taos so that they will spread the word about it to others and earn Taos a reputation as a music community.

Plans are afoot for a replacement to the annual Solar Fest.
Unconfirmed rumors are circulating that prominent members of the local music community are working to replace the cancelled Solar Fest with a new music festival for 2010. If you have any solid information on those involved please forward it to the Taos AMP executive committee so we can find ways to assist those efforts.

Taos AMP Executive Committee Expanding
Taos AMP is targeting key members of the music community to add to the executive committee.
Anyone is interested in a leadership position with the organization should contact Kelly Rudy.
